Position Description

We have has an opening for a full-time attorney available for applicants admitted to the Florida Bar. The ideal candidate will have experience researching, drafting pleadings, negotiating, and litigating in the areas of Housing/Landlord-tenant, Family Law, Public Benefits, and Veteran Benefits. Experience with veterans’ issues is preferred, but not mandatory. 

This position requires good oral and written advocacy skills and a willingness to be an aggressive advocate in court for the indigent and veteran client population. Job duties include, but are not limited to, conducting legal assessments, performing intakes, representing clients, and case management. Other job duties include mentoring pro bono attorneys and providing advice and council on family law and veteran matters. This position also offers the opportunity to educate both private and public entities on unique military/veteran issues and laws. Bilingual skills are a plus, but not required.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a grassroots Veterans Advocacy program that is being replicated across the country.

Qualifications

  • Active membership in the Florida State Bar
  • Experience serving low-income, Veterans, or other marginalized communities preferred but not required
  • A demonstrable awareness and sensitivity to the needs of the populations we serve is necessary
  • Ability to work effectively with a large caseload and function professionally within a highly stressful environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently at times and also as an effective part of a team, including other attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and community partners
  • excellent writing and communication skills
  • ability to work constructively with others
  • The ability to speak more than one language is a plus; and
  • A willingness to, at times, work beyond a minimum seven-hour workday, including evenings and weekends
