Position Description

Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Inc., in Plantation Florida, seeks an experienced attorney to work with Veterans in obtaining Veterans Benefits. The Attorney will handle Veterans discharge upgrades as well as housing issues, family issues and other small civil matters. Immediate opening.

Qualifications

  • Active membership in the Florida State Bar;
  • Candidate experience including, but not limited to, providing civil and administrative legal serves to Veterans and their families. The attorney will handle a variety of civil cases, including Veterans Benefits, Family Law issues, and Housing issues, as well as others;
  • Experience serving low-income communities preferred but not required;
  • A demonstrable awareness and sensitivity to the needs of the veteran populations we serve is necessary;
  • Ability to work effectively with a large caseload and function professionally within a highly stressful environment;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to work independently at times and also as an effective part of a team, including other attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and community partners;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills;
  • The ability to speak more than one language is a plus; and
  • A willingness to, at times, work beyond a minimum seven-hour workday, including evenings and weekends
