Position Summary

Our Housing and Consumer Unit advocates on behalf of qualifying low-income members of the community facing issues such as eviction, foreclosure, and debt, among many others. Currently, the unit has an opening for a full-time Staff Attorney

Essential Duties and Responsabilities

  • Providing high-quality legal services to our vulnerable clients.
  • The position requires representation in all areas of law, including housing, landlord/tenant disputes, evictions, foreclosures, utilities, public benefits, consumer, and other civil matters.
  • The services provided can range from legal advice, brief service, to full court representation.
  • This position requires preparing and delivering client and community education; conducting intake and outreach; appearing in administrative and judicial forums; active bar participation; and special legal and community projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Member in good standing of the Florida Bar Association.
  • Experience serving low-income individuals, victims of crime, veterans, or other marginalized communities preferred but not required.
  • A demonstrable awareness and sensitivity to the needs of the populations we serve.
  • Ability to work effectively and function professionally within a highly stressful environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently at times and also as an effective part of a team, including other attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • The ability to speak more than one language is a plus.
