Position Summary
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to implement treatment plans that help residents improve mobility, strength, and function. In a skilled nursing facility setting, the PTA plays a vital role in promoting rehabilitation, independence, and overall well-being of geriatric residents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer physical therapy treatments and exercises as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Monitor and document residents' responses to treatment and report progress or concerns to the Physical Therapist.
- Assist residents with functional mobility training, gait training, therapeutic exercises, and use of assistive devices.
- Encourage resident participation and provide motivation throughout the rehabilitation process.
- Maintain accurate and timely treatment records in compliance with facility and regulatory standards.
- Educate residents and caregivers on exercises, safety techniques, and adaptive strategies to promote independence.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure consistent and effective resident care.
- Adhere to all infection control, safety, and confidentiality policies and procedures.
- Maintain equipment and therapy area cleanliness and organization.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and support residents.
- Proficiency with documentation and use of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Education & Experience
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current and valid PTA license.
- CPR/BLS certification (required).
- Prior experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care facility preferred.
