Position Summary

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to implement treatment plans that help residents improve mobility, strength, and function. In a skilled nursing facility setting, the PTA plays a vital role in promoting rehabilitation, independence, and overall well-being of geriatric residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer physical therapy treatments and exercises as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Monitor and document residents' responses to treatment and report progress or concerns to the Physical Therapist.
  • Assist residents with functional mobility training, gait training, therapeutic exercises, and use of assistive devices.
  • Encourage resident participation and provide motivation throughout the rehabilitation process.
  • Maintain accurate and timely treatment records in compliance with facility and regulatory standards.
  • Educate residents and caregivers on exercises, safety techniques, and adaptive strategies to promote independence.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure consistent and effective resident care.
  • Adhere to all infection control, safety, and confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Maintain equipment and therapy area cleanliness and organization.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and support residents.
  • Proficiency with documentation and use of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

Education & Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Current and valid PTA license.
  • CPR/BLS certification (required).
  • Prior experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care facility preferred.
