Position Summary
The Director of Service is a bright, articulate individual with a proven track record of leadership and successful financial and operational performance in fire and life safety. This individual will assess the current organization, provide management development, and strategic planning for existing operations and potential new business initiatives.
The Director of Service will be a proven leader in the industrial services sector with an energetic drive. This individual will also be a commercially minded business leader with experience in developing and implementing strategy and growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Managing and overseeing all fire sprinkler service and inspection team members and processes company-wide
- Preparing and adhering to the service operations budget; conducts resource analysis with SVP of Operations
- Monitoring and reporting on metrics involving revenue, gross margin, and productivity
- Developing, implementing, and continuously improving processes to convert installation clients to inspection sales
- Assisting in the growth of alarm/extinguisher/suppression service and inspection business
- Oversees audits and work instructions improvement process to ensure integrity and relevance
- Seeking out opportunities for multi-office service premier or national accounts
- Coordinating service operations with premier accounts to ensure that customer needs are being met
- Ensuring that safety and risk assessment training is delivered to service and inspection employees
- Developing, augmenting, and updating sales pricing program for inspectors and service sales
- Proposing ways to leverage technology and process improvement to increase productivity and profitability; onboarding newer technology as appropriate
- Traveling to other offices for team member support and coordination with premier or national accounts
- Performing other duties as assigned by executive management or SVP of Operations
- Communicate effectively and professionally within the division and with internal and external customers
- Understand and follow HR and safety initiatives and processes
- Ensure there are weekly meetings within Service and Inspection Teams – Department Managers, Superintendents, Administration, Sales, Design, etc.
- Update status on all jobs – materials, equipment rentals, subcontractors, intercompany jobs, etc.
- Determine jobs to be billed and ensure daily/weekly billing for Service and Inspections
- Confirm required payment terms on open jobs
- Ensure timely review and sign off on reports
- Track and ensure profitability of Fire Sprinkler Service and Inspection Divisions
- Oversight of change order management, as appropriate
- Promote and track divisional growth with department goals discussed annually
- Support and ensure team adherence to all company SOPs – job set Up, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, accounting processes, subcontractors, etc.
- Ensure inventory control measures are in place for division
- Ensure multiple bids for material purchasing optimization, where appropriate
- Manage subcontractors and ensure review/approval all subcontractor invoices prior to payment
- Ensure review of budget vs. actual job costing details and review findings with department for improvement opportunities
- Maximize labor production and efficiency while maintaining quality standards
- Overhead review – conduct semi-annual meetings with leadership
- Maintain quality control in all aspects of the division
- Ensure customer satisfaction and response to customer satisfaction survey feedback improvement opportunities
- Reduce turnover and increase Retention within division
- Training and development of team
- Input and development of training requirements
- Commitment to training at all levels for all team members
- Be an expert on every aspect of your business/division

Education & Experience
- High School diploma or GED required
- Higher education degree or equivalent work experience preferred
- 5+ years leading, managing, and developing multiple teams
- Fire sprinkler and/or fire alarm design experience is preferred
- Fire sprinkler and/or fire alarm field experience is preferred
- Fire sprinkler and/or fire alarm sales experience is preferred
